Milwaukee to see its first women’s hockey tournament

Metro Milwaukee Women’s Hockey, parent organization of the Brew City Blades, will be hosting their first ever women’s adult hockey tournament at the Pettit National Ice Center on May 16 – 17, 2009.  The Brew City Showdown will be raising money for the National Osteoporosis Foundation.  Proceeds from the tournament will go towards the foundation.

The tournament is open to all B, C and novice level female adult skaters.  Team registration is $400 and guarantees 3 games over the two-day tournament.  Teams from across the Midwest are expected to participate.

“Our goal to host a tournament was originally set for 2010. With the rapid growth of our organization and interest from our members, we are happy to say we will be hosting a tournament in 2009,” commented Laurie Harrigan, Vice President of Metro Milwaukee Women’s Hockey.

Metro Milwaukee Women’s Hockey is a  non-profit organization, with over 150 current members and has grown by doubling their membership over each of the past two years.  They will conclude their third season this spring and move into spring training followed by the summer league. The purpose of the organization is to promote and provide enjoyable opportunities for women to play ice hockey and develop athletic skills while sharing in a positive and fun team experience.

About Brew City Blades
The Brew City Blades consists of two competitive women’s adult hockey teams that compete at the B and C levels in the Women’s Central Hockey League.
